You can get the latest XML file here and if you can send me an updated XML file, along with a tarball of new icons, I'll get that posted ASAP -- that takes me much less time than editing the page myself.

So far, I haven't received a new icons.xml file, nor a new tarball of the icons. To reiterate, I will get them posted ASAP as soon as they show up in my inbox

Folks --

The work that fir3fly has done is pretty kick-ass. He contacted me via email with an update and, pending a few minor modifications to how his script works (mainly outputting into XML instead of HTML) this should make things a lot easier when it comes to updating the page.

Why not release the .psd files (for photoshop) and the gimp's similar? Those who create themes, would like to have those files, wouldn't they?

another 0.02 € for the pile. :)

They've been released ever since the page has been on gentoo.org:

http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/icons.xml

at the bottom.

Yes but those are only for the base. I was thinking on the individual icons. Suppose, I wanted to change only the background of one icon. I would have to build it from the base.

Sorry for not being clear enough,

You irrelevant? Why? I didn't say you were irrelevant. Not you, nor anyone else...

Or am I misunderstanding your post?

For some reason I've always hated the (somewhat) standard icon of Blender that comes with KDE. So tried to make it look more like the real blender-logo, which looks far better than that ugly icon :).

Anyways, here it is.

Argh.

i hate when a webspace goes down:

New location.. lets see how far this comes:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/fir3fly2003/ <- beware.. ~3MB (with all the icons)

And by the way.. XQF has no icon.. what about this one?

XNC is a filemanager.
Xfe is a filemanager.
Samba =/= Windows
All three of them should go to the Desktop department IMO, as Gentoo resides there, too. (The filemanager, gentoo, that is.)

Is there an ebuild in portage for these icons? Or another way of installing them? I'm a KDE user and would love to install these as an icon theme.

My next project is to learn how to actually create a KDE theme.
After weeks of spending much of my free time searching the web and experimenting, I have been unable to take the gentoo icon set and make it installable as an icon theme in KDE 3.1. I've found absolutely no information or "howto" tutorials on the web. While I KNOW it can be done, it would seem that those who know how have not shared that knowledge with the rest of us (not an accusation, just a frustrated rant).

If somebody here can think of a resource that I may have overlooked, please let me know. I REALLY hate giving up, but I fear I have run up against the proverbial "brick wall" on this one.

OK, with many thanks to fir3fly for his nifty icons2xml.pl script and no thanks to me for the delay in implementing it, we now have a dynamically-updated icons page on www.gentoo.org:

http://www.gentoo.org/dyn/icons.xml

This page gets updated nightly and reads all available icons from the directory in which they reside. This should make updates even easier in the future.
