This is a normal period for testing. You can unmask it though, or whats bothering you?
Same scenario with GNOME 2.10, but nobody got hurt, did one? _________________ Do you know the secret hand shake - you best use it.

I prefer it to be stable when it reach a 3.4.0-r1 or -r2. KDE i always buggy. I'm using the latest stable verion in gentoo and still it has some bugs. It never happened to my with gnome. _________________ Gentoo: Gigabyte: nFORCE 2: nVIDIA GeForce 6600: AMD Athlon XP 3200+

I'm using the split ebuild 'version' of 3.4 and I have never seen a more stable KDE on my machine. |

Interesting... I can't stand gnome because of the constant gconf errors and what not that always plague it. Now I see slackware isn't even bothering including it anymore because it is so horrible to package. Just my $.02. |

I have to say I contradicted myself and upgraded to gentoo testing just to get the latest kde and so far 3.4.0 is more stable than 3.3.2. _________________ Gentoo: Gigabyte: nFORCE 2: nVIDIA GeForce 6600: AMD Athlon XP 3200+

Is this still normal now :s ??
Some programs behave strangely and i don't know if its connected to the state of the package... |

To answer the original poster's question, the reason that KDE 3.4 is taking so long to hit x86 is mainly due to the issues with compiling it using -fvisibility (a new feature in GCC 3.4 which can potentially give significant speedups). Interesting enough, since x86 users are still using GCC 3.3.5, they should have no issues using KDE 3.4, but ~x86 users will probably have issues. There's also a (supposedly) smaller issue with managing and testing both the monolithic and the split ebuilds, but AFAIK, the -fvisibility bug is still pending. |

That's been fixed now, by the simple expedient of disabling -fvisibility=hidden entirely.
