|
|
I'm using ATI X800 which is an pci-express card and Gigabyte GA8I915p Duo. I have installed the 2.6.11-r4 gentoo-source and the new ati-driver, but the fglrx modules just won't load.
Here is the error mesg:
Code: | resnet-96793 log # modprobe fglrx
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.11-gentoo-r4/video/fglrx.ko): No such device |
i've tried to build the agpgart and intel-agp as module and in kernel. makes no difference.
think the lspci may be of help
Code: | resnet-96793 log # lspci

This seems to with the ChipID mismatch. I've found several threads in the forum which describe the similar problem all sorted out by overriding the ChipID in the xorg.conf to one that the driver recognise. Don't know if this is only associated with certain manufacture, mine is a Sapphire card.
And here is the relavent section of my xorg.conf
Code: | Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Graphics Adapter"
Driver "fglrx"
ChipID 0x5548 #here i added the ChipID line |
but by this method, the dri part is still not functioning. I think probabaly because the kernel module still cant recognise the card. Is there a way to modify the driver to let it support the extra chips or is it hardcored in the binary part of the driver? _________________ I Want to Believe |

There is a method you can use to insert a new ID into the binary part of the driver, but it's a little involved. On this page, scroll down till you see a post by ohoiza. Try following those instructions. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra
