Quickcam Webcam

I am trying to get my Quickcam Webcam working using video 4 linux and I have a problem. The kernel recognizes the camera as attached, but I don't have a /dev/video or /dev/v4l. Nothing is being created. I am using 2.6.11-r6 with video for linux compiled in and the Quickcam color driver. Is there something I've missed?
