|

I've been reading around the internet and Gentoo forums but haven't been able to find a way to fix my problem. I want to be able to Powerdown my monitor (powersave mode) when in the console. I have been trying a large combination of things, but nothing seems to work.
To get started, to test if the monitor will turn off I use the follow
Code: | setterm -powerdown 1 -powersave on -blank 1 |
I also have an nVidia mx4000 (or something close to that).
If I disable the "VESA VGA graphics support" in the kernel, it will powerdown how it is suppose to. But as soon as I enable the VESA VGA graphics support, I can only get the monitor to blank, but now to go into Powersave mode.
Along with being able to powerdown the monitor, I would like to use 1024x768 resolution, but as far as I know, I could only get this to work when using the VEGA VGA framebuffer driver.
Does anyone have any ideas for me to test? I've put a few hours in with no luck so far. _________________ It's not what it is, it's something else.

I just tried (2 minutes ago) the vesafb also, and when I boot with the "vga=0x317" kernel option, the monitor will not go into powersave mode. But if I remove the kernel "vga=0x317" boot option, it will go into powersave mode just fine.
Edit: And just incase it matter... this is a brand new box built off the 2005.0 release. I doubt it matter, but I'm using the masked version of gcc (3.4.3) and glibc. I'm also loading the masked version of the "nvidia-kernel" driver. But I'm using the normal versions of everything else. _________________ It's not what it is, it's something else.
