|
|
Hi everybody,
i just emerged Kde-3.4 and tried the new feature to login at F8 as new user. But this dont work.
When I start a new session first the kdm login appears but after i entered my password nothing happens.
A switch to the first session shows me this X Error:
"KDE seems to be already running on this display."
Anybody an idea? |

Do you start the Xserver with the init-scripts at boottime, and then trying to launch a session with startx?
why? Does kdm tells you that you've entered the wrong passwd? _________________ printf("format string what?"); |

I think I'm having a similar problem, even though I never see the "KDE already running on this display" error message. I've got KDM starting at boot time, via the xdm init script and rc.conf. I log in initially (on :0), and all is great. I go to Switch User -> Start new Session.
At that point, KDM starts up on :1 . . . great. Second user logs in . . . great. Then there's a flicker, and it takes me back to the first login, on :0.
Looking at the second user's .xsession-errors-:1 file, it is says: Code: | Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
xset: unable to open display ":0.0"
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
xset: unable to open display ":0.0"
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
xsetroot: unable to open display ':0.0'
startkde: Starting up...
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
ksplash: cannot connect to X server :0.0
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
kded: cannot connect to X server :0.0
kded: ERROR: KUniqueApplication: Registering failed!
kded: ERROR: Communication problem with kded, it probably crashed.
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
kdeinit: Can't connect to the X Server.
kdeinit: Might not terminate at end of session.
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
kcminit: cannot connect to X server :0.0
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
ksmserver: cannot connect to X server :0.0
startkde: Shutting down...
klauncher: Exiting on signal 1
startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
startkde: Done. | So obviously, KDE is trying to connect to the wrong &$%# X server. Any ideas on how to get it straightened out?
My /usr/kde/3.4/share/config/kdm/Xservers file looks like this: Code: | :0 local@tty1 /usr/X11R6/bin/X -nolisten tcp
:1 local@tty2 reserve /usr/X11R6/bin/X -nolisten tcp :1
:2 local@tty3 reserve /usr/X11R6/bin/X -nolisten tcp :2 | The worst part is, it used to work fine on this computer, and I don't remember when it quit working. _________________ My glaucoma just got worse! |

Anyone have any ideas? My wife keeps taking over one of the virtual desktops on my laptop, and it's driving me nuts! _________________ My glaucoma just got worse! |

Up to a point, yes. I'm all for sharing the laptop, desktop, whatever. But it's Linux, dammit. We should be able to both be logged in at the same time, and CTRL+ALT+Fx back and forth.
*sigh*
