I have three IBM Netfinity servers for which I am trying to use the aic7xx SCSI module. I am running kernel 2.6.11-gentoo-r5. It seems something is broken with the driver and/or the kernel. I cannot access my SCSI CD-RW and when I am trying to unload the module, I am getting a kernel panic.
When loading the module, I can see my CD-RW with cdrecord --scanbus, but when I am trying to record something on it, it fails and at some point cdrecord says it needs to reload the CD in order to reinitialize the drive, it then fails to eject the CD and asked to do it manually. However, pressing the eject button has no effect on the drive. The CD is trapped in the drive and I was unsuccessful to eject it, using a wire-pin, unplugging the SCSI and just with the power-on.
I don't know where to start debugging this. That's the second time I have a CD-RW drive that seems scrapped by the aic7xx and/or cdrecord module. _________________ Achille Talon Hop! |

sounds like a hardware problem dude. take it back to the store you got it from and exchange it or get a different one.
Also, is the scsi bus properly terminated? |

This CD-RW drive worked before. This is a old CD-RW drive I already used on another Linux server (RedHat 6.2). _________________ Achille Talon Hop! |
