Recently, I borked my home network settings... and I'm now trying to get stuff working as before. Right now, I have a Linux laptop connected to a Windows XP computer. The configuration is as follows:
DNS server (in /etc/resolv.conf, Windows XP): 202.188.0.133, 202.188.1.5
Linux laptop: 192.168.0.2
Windows comp: 192.168.0.1
The thing is, now I can ping my Windows computer from the Linux laptop, but I cannot connect to anything else.... for instance, pinging 192.168.0.1 works, but pinging the DNS server of my ISP (202.188.0.133) doesn't work, it says Network not reachable.
I'm not that well versed in network stuff, so I'd appreciate it if someone would point out the error somewhere. I'm sure it's a configuration problem - but I don't know where!

Since you've said you have a Linux laptop connected to a Windows computer, I'm assuming that the XP computer is connected to the internet and to a LAN (192.168.0.x).

So you'd like the windows box to act as a gateway for the LAN, which can be accomplished by using Internet Connection Sharing (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/learnmore/ics.mspx) or other specialized software like WinRoute (http://www.kerio.com/kwf_home.html) or WinGate (http://www.wingate.com/product-wingate.php)

Hope this helps. :)

Yeah I set ICS up already.... it still doesn't let the requests for 202.188.0.133 to pass through it tho.

YES!!! I GOT IT WORKING!!!!
ok, so after a while, it suddenly hit me that the laptop might not be telling the windows xp box that it wanted 202.188.0.133. I observed the LAN connection details, and no packets were being transmitted when I hit ping 202.188.0.133.
Luckily I know how to add stuff to the kernel routing table (does the kernel have a lot to do with routing? I don't think so, but some ppl still call it thus....)
emerging fsv now. Thanks all!
