I just finished installing gentoo and now have a free running version of Gentoo working on my computer. But when i tried to emerge KDE i realized that i dont have internet. I have a nforce3 motherboard. You should note that every version of linux (including the gentoo livecd) and Windows automaticly finds the ethernet. The first thing that i am going to try is update the drivers. but if you can think of anything else please post it.

I had to setup routing when I was at that point. So that would be the first thing I would check. If that is what it is then it is very easy to fix. Look in the instalation guide.

land stander,

Run ifconfig to see if you have an eth0 and/or eth1 ...
If not, the kernel module for your NIC is not loaded or maybe not built.

You can find out which module it is from the liveCD since it will be listed in the output of lsmod. Or you can post the Ethernet lines from the output of lspci and a reader will spot it for you.
