|
|
Hi all,
I'm using a Dell Inspiron laptop with a Centrino chipset (82801DBM or ICH4-M chipset). Anyone know how to get lm-sensors working on this laptop? Every time I compile in the appropriate modules and try sensors-detect nothing gets detected. I've looked over the documentation without becoming any wiser, and checked the linux-laptops.org website.
Thanks in advance,
simondo

Do you use the i8k module to control your fans? |

No. I've compiled it in as a module and used it before to see what it did (damn near caused a hurricane with my fans!), but I haven't used it. I'm primarily interested in getting a reading of any temperatures in the computer, not just the cpu.
Thanks,

AFIK, you can only monitor the CPU temperature on this laptop. I see no trace of any other temp sensors in this laptop. The i8k sensor works fine for me, of course you'll need an application to control the behaviour of the fans. |

Yeah? That's interesting. I thought laptops would have sensors all over the place given the design constraints upon them. I'm not really after something to control the fans with, just something to let me know the temperature inside the laptop. What do you use?
Thanks! |

I use this i8k module and a gkrellm2 applet (x11-plugins/i8krellm) to control the fans. It displays the cpu temperature and controls the fans when the temperature reaches a certain treshold, depending on ac or battery usage. You can also manually control the fans. It can even show a graph of the temperature history. |

Great, thanks for that tip. I'll mark this thread solved.
