|
|
Hi,
Im very new to this. I followed the installation instructions the best I could but after installing 2005.0 I am getting an error when trying to boot up. This is what I get:
>> Mounting filesystems
mount: Mounting devfs on /dev failed: No such device
Error opening file: ".devfsd" No such file or directory
>> Determining root device...
>> Block device /dev/hda3 is not a valid root device...
>> The root block device is unspecified or not detected.
Please specify a device to boot, or "shell" for a shell...
boot() ::
If possible, please be as simple as possible if you know of a fix because Im a newby. Thanks!

I asume that you do not have devfs enabled at boot as it is described in the gentoo install guide. You will however need to have udev instead, follow this simple guide. emerge udev and reboot, se if it helps. _________________ AMD64 Gentoo Hardened server

if you have a 2.4 kernel then you need to enable devfs which is in the install guide (I think)
If you are on a 2.6 kernel, you need unselect devfs, and try emerging udev instead when you are chroot'd to your gentoo installation from the livecd.
Also might need to check your fstab for your settings for your "/" partition, as it looks like your bootloader cannot find a valid root device. Then check your bootloader conf file to make sure that it is booting from the right partition. |

I just got the same problem and I realized that devfsd is !NOT! installed after Code: | emerge --emptytree system |
I fixed it by installing it manually
maybe I try udev later _________________ THX FOR READING THIS CRAP |
