|
|
Hi,
Installing Gentoo on a new IBM T42p is so far going smoothly - now I want to enable WiFi (802.11g). Which instructions should I be following? The wiki has
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Wireless_Configuration_and_Startup
which suggests using baselayout, wireless tools etc. Many other posts suggest using madwifi-driver for this machine - e.g.
http://umech.mit.edu/aja/linux/t42p/#wireless
while https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=205355 suggests something else again....
I'm using a gentoo-sources 2.6 kernel, the wireless card is the onboard Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG (rev 5) -- according to /proc/pci.
Any suggestions would be most welcome, as would any comments about the ibm-acpi ebuild (currently inaccessible because I enabled the kernel option for IBM Thinkpad support). I'll be tackling this tomorrow --- after some sleep
Regards,
Thomas. |

Well I cannot tell you for sure but I'm the owner of a T41p with a 802.11abg card which uses atheros chipset and therefore needs the madwifi-drivers. My guess is that you should go for the intel drivers because you seem to have an intel chipset... ![Wink ;)](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

... and much too late I realise what you meant -- the intel chipset is in fact called "ipw2200" and with that, and using the HOWTO on the Wiki -
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Wireless_Configuration_and_Startup
- I have it working -- though I didn't use the unstable baselayout and just used iwconfig (for now).
Thanks for your help.
