HI - couple of general questions/queries re. USE-flags.
1) - Is it wise or useful to use Global USE flags in your /etc/make.conf file if you're regularly changing/experimenting with different desktops/wm's & other software - ie if your Gentoo installation is not really tailored around one Desktop/Toolkit?
2) - If you don't "add" any USE-flags to your make.conf, is it worthwile using local USE-flags on a per application basis?
3) - Anyone have any USE-flag tips etc.
Thanks. |

USE-flags are just a front-end for the options in ./configure of a program.
i just set everytime-used flags in my make.conf, like mmx (caouse i have an athlon tb) or so, and the rest on a per application base. if find this more felxible, because i don't want X support on every app.
and if you recall, USE-flags are just for setting the options of a program at compile-time, you will see, requesting for 'tipps' with USE-flags is quite ridicolous... _________________ geek by nature, linux by choice
