The coolest part - KDE-3.1 was available unmasked in Portage before the announcement was up on the KDE site. Props to the Gentoo team! |

Oh, and of course, props to the KDE team as well. 3.1 is simply amazing. |

Yes, but 3.2-beta1 should be out soon =) I've been running bleeding-edge KDE for a while, it works fine! _________________ Registred Linux user #191143!

Isn't it depressing when you're just downloading and installing KDE3.1, and you're reading about the features you 'll be getting in KDE3.2?
Some people just can't be happy with what they've got |

Hi, my first post!
Since now, all my ebuilds and updates went perfect! So, I'm very satisfied with Gentoo and all that! But, emerge said that it will "U" KDE and now I've end up with two KDE's on my system! In /usr/kde/ I have /3/ and /3.1/ dirs for every KDE I installed... How in the world I can remove the old one? _________________ -------------

I'm not happy
After this: www.nosnieuws.nl site stopped working in RC6
Now this: www.tweakers.net site also has mayor render and javascript problems. Those happen to be my most often visited sites!!
(I already posted a bug for the RC6 issue, should I do more?)
P.S. I opened another topic on this, as I'd like to find a solution.. If that was bad.. just yell at me...

Damn... it was only thursday that I decided to go bleeding edge with KDE and installed 3.1-rc6 to get rid of a ridiculous kmail bug.
-rc6 works incredibly nice and I think I'll stick to it 'til some issue is out making it important that I do upgrade. Until then, I'm too bored to go through this again.
BTW, KDE 3.1 really rocks. The tab feature in konqueror is just genius (now I can both "split" AND "tab" views). Kmail got even better now supporting POP filters besides to normal ones, a new view of the structure of multipart mails (say, text, html, attachment etc.), assigning different identities on different folders etc. Also, a few new games and more powerful customization, that beauty of keramic being the default style. Wow, thanks kde ppl, you ROCK! _________________ Need to flame people LIVE on IRC? Join #gentoo-otw on freenode! |

I grabbed it last night & its been compiling for 8 hrs now... *crossing fingers*. I'm looking forward to the tabbed Konq, as I simply can not get Phoenix to run when compiled from source.... |

I'm a committed Gnome user, but this release looks interesting enough for me to take a look at. I sincerely hope the level of bloat and "crackrock" has been reduced; I have high hopes because I heard this release is a lot faster.
There was some talk of improvements to KDEHTML by the Safari team. I just read that a few improvements (the details weren't specified) were folded back into the KDE 3.1 code, but that the majority of them will be in 3.2.
Oh, and I hope everyone will try and use the closest mirrors! I ftp'd mine from ftp.mirror.ac.uk, only thing is that you need to rename arts-1.1.tar.bz2 to arts-1.1_kde-3.1.tar.bz2 for Gentoo to accept it.
I must say though (unlike 95% of the world it seems), I do not like the look of the default theme (a lurid Fisher-Price inspired nightmare to me) so that'll be the first thing I change after compiling. Nonetheless, this is an exciting release and I can't wait to try it .. |

Keramic is quite popular amongst KDE users, but a little big in my opinion... You may want to look at MKUltra
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=2865
for a nice alternative (BTW, I believe designed by the chap developing CardDesk; TomorrowPlusX) |

I already have an ebuild in bugzilla, but the developers seem to dislike me as nearly all the ebuilds I've submitted for quite some time has been rejected or forgotten. |
