Hi everyone,
Is there any application in Linux which is close to Visio from M$?
I know these 2:
* "dia" but I hate it so much. It is very unusable.
* GraphViz is a text based drawing tool that is usable only by automatic drawing tools like doxygen.
I also know the possibility of running visio over crossoveroffice but I would rather avoid it.
Regards,
ctachta
P.S. please do not tell me to write one myself |

What features do you want in particular? There are desktop publishing tools such as Scribus (http://www.scribus.org.uk) that might suit your purpose. XFig (http://www.xfig.org) is probably closer to what you want. _________________ "No question is so difficult to answer as that to which the answer is obvious" -- George Bernard Shaw |

Code: | emerge media-gfx/sodipodi |
Dia I think is a pretty good choice. Xfig?... Well...
Sodipodi, although I haven't tested it yet, but so far it's worth that 5-minute emerge:) |

I haven't used Sodipodi in a while. The last time I checked their site, it appeared to be abandoned. This would be a shame because I remember liking it.
Xfig is ugly as all get out, but it's popular and it has a lot of useful features.
There are several commercial tools which do diagramming. One is Kivio http://www.koffice.org/kivio/, which was recently donated to the KOffice project. _________________ "No question is so difficult to answer as that to which the answer is obvious" -- George Bernard Shaw |

No, it's now possible to emerge only a part of koffice package:
Code: | emerge app-office/kivio |
Just like with kde-3.4 |

Guys
zieloo thanks a lot I I will try the kivio as well. At the moment I am trying to familiarase myself with Xfig since I found that is quite extensable and I can even specify my own libraries (I think, I have not done so yet).
diastelo Scribus does not suite my needs since it is mostly for making leaflets and things like these.

The main reason I want this package is to draw abstract diagrams (so I need easy text insertion into the drawing bloacks), flowcharts and network topologies.
Finally, I will also try sodipodi.
But Xfig seems a bit g33ky to be honest and a bit unsually let's say for its first time user.

Code: | xfig*customization: -color |
Add this to your ~/.Xdefaults and it will be a bit less g33ky |
