Hello

I was using hal (udev) and gnome-volume-manager (also coldplug and hotplug) for automounting my mp3-player and my external hdd. Well it doesn't work anymore and I have no idea why. I should have all the necessary modules. The only hint i have is dmesg. I get:

There seems to be a problem reading device descriptor?! I dunno why because in windows both devices work like always.

Any hints where i have to look?

Thx

When you say they work in windows, is this on the same machine and using the same USB slot?

I sometimes get this type of message with a flash drive that has a bit of a loose connection. It could be that your cable or connection has gone a bit loose.

Otherwise, have your recompiled your kernel recently? Worth checking the config is what you expect it to be.

It's the same machine with exactly the same 2 devices

I have recompiled my kernel yesterday after it didnt work, i checked all the modules and recompiled it without changing anything of the config... i think this is not the problem... because it did work with that kernel-config until 2 days ago

When you recompiled, did you go to a newer kernel version and did your redo your config by hand or copy the .config file? Sometimes copying the .config file over to a new version can miss out some drivers if options have changed name or have added depends.

I don't know anything about hal or d-bus, but I doubt it's udev as it doesn't look like the device is getting to the point of creating its nodes.

Sorry I can't be more help.....
