|
|
My Grub has been working fine until recently. Sometimes I turn on my computer and it hangs. Sometimes it hangs before Grub loads, and sometimes it hangs at "Loading Grub, Please Wait..." When I turn it back off and wait 30 seconds, it goes right into grub with no problems.
Does this sound like a hardware issue or do I just need to reinstall Grub?

this is a hardware issue, if it sometimes hangs before and after grub then it cant be grub. My guess is your hard drive is on its last legs. Store everything you need on CD's NOW!!!! _________________ https://otw20.com/ OTW20 The new place for off the wall chat |

As far as I can tell It never gets past "Loading Grub..." No normal bad HDD sounds, but I'll check when I get home. My damn boot screen stays up there sometimes and I rarely ever saw "Loading Grub." And I unfortunately don't get a grub> prompt. |

it never gets past loading grub? Well you didn't say that... why not fdisk the mbr and re-emerge grub using a live cd? _________________ https://otw20.com/ OTW20 The new place for off the wall chat |

After re-emerging Grub, still no luck. I attempted to get into BIOS and couldn't, so I tried switching keyboards(I had to do this when I installed Gentoo originally to get to my BIOS, must be that damn Microsoft KB). After going through the boot order, I noticed that my Flash card reader was number 1... Put it at 3 and disabled boot from USB, but still no luck. Unplugged the card reader and *POOF* no more problems... Thanks for the help even though it turned out to be something as simple as that. |
