|
|
I am trying to set up the modem on a recently acquired 12" iBook G4. hcfusbmodem emerges without error. hcfusbmodem runs without error until the end, when it reports "ERROR: no device detected by hcfusb driver". The devices are created, along with a link to /dev/modem, but any attempt to access it fails. lsusb and usbview show no sign of a modem.
Is this a hardware problem, or have I done something stupid when building the kernel? |

Update: I've reloaded MacOS and the modem works there. So this is a configuration issue. are there any kernel options required to make the modem show up? |

The modem is not supported by Linux. It's the same situation under Linux x86 with Win modems. |

A number of posts report various degrees of success with the hcfusbmodem drivers, but my problem is not with the drivers. The modem hardware doesn't even show up. |

do you have USB enabled in kernel???
i don't know about HCF USB, but I used to use HCF PCI and worked really great |

Yes, USB is working. I've tried a USB flash disk and USB WiFi, both work fine.
hcfpcimodem is for x86, hcfusbmodem is for ppc. The modem doesn't show up in lspci either |

I've had another look at this and still cannot get the system to acknowledge that a modem is present. There is a possible clue in dmesg

Could this be anything to do with the modem, which is present and works under MacOS? If so, how do I enable it? |
