I've been working for over an hour trying to get Gentoo to recognize my wireless internet connection but my results have thus far been futile. Eventually I decided to seek help on the forums and as a result found a link to this website:

http://linux_wless.passys.nl/

where I found a list of supported and unsupported network cards for Linux. As it turns out my network card is unsupported. Being a college student and currently unemployed, I really don't have the extra money lying around to buy another card. Under these circumstances I didn't know who to go to so I just posted here. If anyone could find a way to obtain support for this card I'd be most appreciative...and not only that - there'd be one less obstacle for the Linux community!:D

Vendor: Linksys
WLAN type: 802.11g
Product ID: WPC54GS
Host I/F: Cardbus
Chipset: Broadcom

You won't find WPC54GS, but you will find WPC54G. the 'S' stands for 'SpeedBooster.'

One more thing you should know. I tried everything in the handbook that pertained to my network setup and nothing would work. Something I did not try is running the discs that came with it. The reason for this is because I was still in the installation process and on the cd there's a little label that reads : 'designed for microsoft windows xp & windows 2000.'

So if anyone would either like to tell me where I might have gone wrong (I understand I didn't give many details), or tell me that the website is outdated, or tell me there's a portage package for this already, or quite simply write drivers for the card, all of which would make my day...er...night....

thanks in advance!

it is not really a matter of gentoo supporting the card, it is whether or not the kernel has a (working) driver.

try here:

http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/

i have no experience with this card.
