I've a working gentoo, but I downloaded the 2005.0 cd to reinstall it in another partition (also to try the new livecd). :D
I saw there is in 2005.0 the packages for the speedtouch modem, unluckly I can't load load the microcode (I copied it from the working gentoo)

I do:
Code:

modem_run -k -s -f /firmware.bin

but nothing happens, I should see the lights lightning..

Is also the kernel speedtouch enabled?

May sound a silly question but what colour is your speedtouch and the model? I use the silver 330 made by thomson which which needs the REV4W firmware http://speedtouchconf.sourceforge.net/rev4fw.zip. If you are having trouble getting the modem to play ball configurationwise then the speedtouchconf project http://speedtouchconf.sourceforge.net should make things a piece of cake.

1. Download the latest tarball from speedtouch site.
2. Untar it (duh) :)
3. Read which fireware is appropriate on the webpage and then obtain it.
4. Move firmware into the untarred speedtouch conf directory and then:

Code:
 cd speedtouchconf-xxxxx && ./speedtouchconf.sh

5. Have the connection details ready etc.
6. Sit back while the script builds and configures the driver with the supplied firmware and after a short wait enjoy the Net! :D

I've the red/violet one. I already have a working firmware (and I made it work without "addons", just common deps) the problem is that even if 2005.0 should be speedtouch-enabled probably something is missed.

For example I don't see some modules like speedtch..

I wouldnt know, I still have much to learn of gentoo :)

What I have come to find is that you need to make sure you enable certain slightly obscure options enabled and compiled into the Kernel.

These are

Device Drivers > Character Devices > Non Standard Serial Port Support > HDLC Line Discipline Support=Y

and

Device Drivers > Network Support > PPP (Point to Point protocol) support=Y
Support for Sync TTY ports=Y

Excuse the formatting of these kernel options, I am but a newbie to the ways of these forums :D

Thank you for your replies :D

I already use a working kernel with that options, I just wanted to say that livecd 2005.0 has installed speedtouch stuff but the kernel is not enabled.
Wasn't better a livecd with full support or not support to this device?

I do not choose every time the option in the kernel, I alwais use a customized .config, but probably a Gentoo newbie if see speedtouch programs expects a working kernel, too:(

Just to add that there used to an integrated speedtouch kernel module by the name of speedtch but it did not work properly for soem reason and had to be blacklisted in hotplug. Unless someoneis willing to say thing have changed since I last read about that module.
