Well, it's not official. Foser probably won't put an ebuild into portage until 2.2 final, but he usually releases the ebuilds on the forums within a few days...

have patience, also, there's another thread about this

unmask them both (not sure if they will compile at all but at least you can try :)

edit /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask, look for gstreamer & gst-plugins and comment them out (by placing a # in front of it)

Thanks for the link crevette, compiling right now :)

Are you comparing to RC1 or other? Cause from where I'm sitting (RC1 installed) it would be fairly amazing if they've managed to make it even smoother.

There are 2 gnome 2.2 topics, so if a moderator could move either to "duplicates" for sanity sake it'd be nice, so only one are used for "My Gnome 2.2 experiences/hopla" stuff.

Its not faster - in most cases its about the same. The built in "music view" there used to be has gone - there is now an "audio view" provided by the addon nautilus-media which is slower in listing files and also playback of music jumps. Thats just a few areas where nautilus has actually gone backwards.

Nautilus has always had network access if you had the right parts installed.

Me too ;-) Strangely enough, I tried to start it as root and it worked once and then never again...

Hi all,

I just installed the gnome 2.2 ebuilds from spider.

This is probably a simple answer, but how do I prevent "emerge sync; emerge --update --deep world" from wanting to downgrade gnome 2.2 to gnome 2.0?

Also, gnome-terminal compiled fine, but won't run - anyone experience this?

So i download the file from spider's site, i have bunziped it and untared it to /usr/local/portage, so that i see several directories:
app-arch dev-libs gnome-extra media-libs x11-terms x11-wm app-editors gnome-base media-gfx net-libs x11-libs x11-themes
and some readmes

I have edited my /etc/make.conf so that my
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~arch" is uncommented, and that my PORTDIR_OVERLAY=/usr/local/portage is uncommented.

Yet emerge -u gnome still shows that old gnome.
What am I doing wrong?

I uncommented this portion of my make.conf file:
Code:

# PORTDIR_OVERLAY is a directory where local ebuilds may be stored without
#     concern that they will be deleted by rsync updates. Default is not
#     defined.
PORTDIR_OVERLAY=/usr/local/portage

No luck

Has anyone else run into this building control-center?

Code:

Anyone think that only updating Metacity and using it with RC1 will work? Or will it not even compile?

Mattgerg:
I get the exact same error, running gcc 2.95.3, mcpu=k6 -O2 -pipe, ~x86 on a fic503+ k6-III+, 256mb, voodoo3.
Tried i586, tried Os with these flags:
USE="X gtk2 gtk 3dfx voodoo3 3dnow truetype smooth gnome cups alsa". Post if you find a solution.
