When i join a server punkbuster is supposed to update automatically,Currently it says updating but never updates. Could this be a permissions problem? Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know the solution to this? It works on my windows box and gives me a progress of update in the console area but it isnt happening in linux. Does anyone know how to update pb manually in linux? Thanks in advance.

I've updated manually and it still just sits there after I've joined.. Longest I've let it go is 5 minutes, but nothing appears in the game console with any status messages. This is a new install.. first time I played it updated normally, but each time after that it's given me problems.

The progress should definitely update when you connect to a server. PB is fairly good at connecting to get updates, and if the progress does not state the downloading of a file in-game, then the PB server could be the issue (ie PB is too busy to update you).

PBweb is best to manually update your PB files, if you are having issues in-game. However, don't download PBweb from ANYWHERE except the official website. With the number of game hacks these days, a trojaned version of any PB files will cause you serious issues.

Did you get it to work PEETIE? I'm still having problems. I can update via pbweb.x86 just fine. I've tried tons of different stuff -- different maps, emerge -C americas-army, rm -r ~/.armyops230, nearly fully servers, empty servers. ArmyOps.log doesn't show me anything of interest. Kinda at a loss.

Just another thought, what file permissions do you have on your pb folder ?

pb from /opt/americas-army/System
Code:

drwxr-x---  5 perry games     608 Apr 23 21:06 pb

If that's not right, it's from me screwing around trying to make it work. Other files / dirs in there are root:games.

pb from ~/.armyops230/System
Code:

drwx------  5 perry users   4096 Apr 23 21:04 pb

That's how the game created it. Can someone else check theirs to verify?

Thanks

The game will use the Punkbuster files from ~/.armyops230/System/pb

Copy pbweb.x86 into that directory and run it, see if that helps. The permissions on ~/.armyops230/System/pb are correct.

If you want to speed up pbweb.x86 by 1000%, try what Init-Zero posted above :)

pbweb.x86 works just fine. Noticed a new version on evenbalance.com and I was able to manually update. Went to an empty official US Army server and let it sit for 20 minutes. The only thing to appear in the console was a message telling me to try running pbweb.x86. Heh. Every 30 seconds or so it would give me the little status messages on the screen (not in the console).

Took a couple minutes for pbweb to run when there was the new update, but it goes through in like 10 seconds after that. So I guess that files are being saved in my ~/.armyops230/System/pb directory. No idea what's wrong with the game though.

It is a very strange problem. The only other thing I could guess at would be a firewall or something getting in the way.

Have you tried getting the pbweb command through the game console ? PB added support for alternate method of updating for people behind firewalls. I have used it a few times, never had an issue with PB.

I've never gotten it to work updating pb ingame.
I have my armyops installed in my homedir so I do:

cd armyops/System/pb
./pbweb.x86
cp -R * ~/.armyops230/System/pb/

maybe it's only necessary to run pbweb.x86 from ~/.armyops230/System/pb/ but..
