|
|
I have an ATI 9000 with two heads. In the Xorg config file this is my device section for video cards:
Code: |
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI0"
Driver "fglrx"
BusID "PCI:2:0:0" # vendor=1002, device=496e
Option "DCCMode" "on"
Option "DPMS"
Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT,CRT"
Screen 0
EndSection
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI1"
Driver "fglrx"
BusID "PCI:2:0:1" # vendor=1002, device=496e
Option "DCCMode" "on"
Option "DPMS"
Screen 1
EndSection
|
When I start X, I get teh same output on both screens and Xorg tells me "no instance for device PCI:2:0:1" but I do, don't I? |

The Radeon 9000 has full 2-D/3-D hardware acceleration support from the DRI drivers that are in-kernel and part of X.org. Using these drivers there is an option called MergedFB which allows you to use both heads of the card. Hmm using this drivers means compiling radeon into the kernel and using "radeon" as the driver?
I am currently using fglrx and if I use "MergedFB" it gives me this same problem I have been having with other configurations. The monitors are in the wrong order. They both show the same thing, but the mouse can still move from one to another. |

Anyone else have any input? Should I just switch back to "radeon" drivers? Does that mean no more 3D?
I have a big desktop working right now, but when I run Xscreensaver it only runs on one monitor. So someone told me the way to fix it is to make two devices in my xorg.conf. |

The radeon driver that is native to Xorg supports full 3D acceleration on radeons up to and including the 9200. |
