!!! /var/tmp/portage/glib-2.6.3/work/glib-2.6.3/config.log

!!! ERROR: dev-libs/glib-2.6.3 failed.
!!! Function econf, Line 485, Exitcode 0

Please can you post more of the error - the last twenty lines or so should be ok. What you've posted there just says that something has gone wrong, but doesn't give any clues as to what.

After you post the rest of the error. Post your /etc/make.conf as well.

You might try to upgrade your version of pkgconfig.

Code:
emerge -upvD pkgconfig
(to test).
emerge -uvD pkgconfig
(to upgrade).

Based on the error message you list it looks like the version you have installed is < 0.14. My system shows the installed version is 0.15.

I had the same Problem. And it was simple to solve.

My cflags line in make.conf was wrong.

It was CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -fomit-frame-pointer" but my system only had a Pentium 3 Processor.

I corrected the line and everything was fine :)
