How did you use them as shortcuts ? |
No, not those keys. I have a "multimedia" keyboard... It has Vol+, Vol-, Mute, Standby, Help, Search, and Internet buttons. I have things set up so the volume keys do what they should, standby starts xscreensaver, and Help, Search, and Internet all start up terminals
Hmm... I suppose I could probably modify things and have the keys you were talking about open up terminals too.... Hmmm... _________________ Shoot Pixels Not People

Well I use all the hotkeys in my keyboard as well.
the volume up and down. when i press play xmms comes and starts playing.
the sleep locks my machine up, the mail button brings up evolution.
Its easy to make.
First you need to set those (hot) keys to F13, F14 etc in a xmodmap file (tip: use xkeycaps and xev).
And then set the shortcut in your windowmanger (i use sawfish). |

How do you set the multimedia keys to control xmms for KDE (3.1)? |

You can set the button to run the xmms command with an option, for example... Set the play button to run "xmms -p" which will cause xmms to start playing the current playlist. read man xmms for more information
...........
I use a program called lineak to handle the keys. There are other programs out there, and I guess you might be able to do it with keymaps... but lineak works great, and was easy to make a new defination for my keyboard for it. And it also works completly independent of what WM you are using. _________________ Shoot Pixels Not People

Another program for those extra keys is xbindkeys. I believe there is an ebuild for it. If you google for xbindkeys config you'll find a useful graphical configuration utility. The nice thing about xbindkeys is that it handles unmapped keys just fine, as long as the scancodes are caught by XFree86. |

yes.. xbindkeys.. it is the program that i had been looking for.. for my keyboard.. i know all the keycodes.. but could not map them to anything with xmodmap. now it is all much better..
now i just have to map the rest of the keys to whatever i want them to do. thanks for the tip. _________________ "That which is overdesigned, too highly
