|
|
Just wondering if anyone has managed to install gentoo on a Sony Z505 laptop? I'm having a lot of trouble with the cdrom (external pcmcia).
I can get the minimal install cd to boot using the following kernel options
Code: |
boot: gentoo ide2=0x180,0x386
|
or
Code: |
boot: gentoo nopcmcia ide2=0x180,0x386
|
but once the machine is up I get a lot of errors about not being able to read the cdrom
Code: |
end_request: I/O error, dev hde, sector xxxx
SQUASHFS error: zlib_fs returned unexpected result 0xfffffffd
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read fragment cache block [xxxx]
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block xxx, size xxx
|
then programs start failing to run
Code: |
-/bin/bash: /usr/bin/whoami: cannot execute binary file
|

You'll get many reports of installing different Linux distros into it, maybe one of them can help you with your current problem. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

Thanks, been there done that. Over the years I've sucessfully run a few RedHats on it, but now I run a gentoo shop and would like to get gentoo on this machine.
I've tried knoppix to do an alternate install and it has the same issues, I was hoping someong here might have a better idea than installing a full RH/Fedora system before going through the alternat install...
Cheers. |

have you tried an older Gentoo LiveCD? Maybe it's something with the newer kernels. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

I seem to have managed to get the 2004.3 and 2005.0 install minimal isos to run with the following options
Code: | gentoo ide2=0x180 nothotplug |
|
