Stylus 740 on USB
Installed: cups, gimp-print-cups, ghostscript, foomatic

USB support is working, lsmod shows usbcore, usb-uhci & printer loaded. /dev/upb/lp0 exists. My USB mouse works great, as does my USB scanner. I installed ghostscript, cups, gimp-print, gimp-print-cups, and then ghostscript again as suggested in these forums. I have tried foomatic to create my ppd and then the cups localhost:631 option. I select names for the printer, put location as "here" and "none" for description. I select USB Printer #1, which shows my printer make and model already there. I select Epson and the correct model/gimp-print version and then the printer is supposedly successfuly added. Going to the printer admin page shows the following:

Description: none
Location: here
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs.
Device URI: usb://EPSON/Stylus%20COLOR%20740?serial=c800

My user is part of the "lp" group and the cups admin page accepts my usr/pass w/out complaint. I can cat a testfile to /dev/usb/lp0 just fine, but when I try to print a test page I am told I don't have permission to access resources on the server.

I think the test page thing may be a bug with the latest version of CUPS available in portage. I could print one before, but not now. Can you print from other applications?

I can print from the Gimp, but OpenOffice prints nice PostScript code. And in the cups admin browser page, I still can't click on the link for my created printer. I still get the forbidden message:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access the resource on this server.

Also, trying foomatic and doing:

foomatic-configure -s cups -p 62112 -c /dev/usb/lp0 -n Epson -d gimp-print

Returns this:

lpadmin: add-printer (set device) failed: client-error-not-possible
Could not set up/change the queue "Epson"!
