|
|
Yeah, so I feel like a noob. Anyway, my gf needs a new fan/ heatsink for her P4. I went over to Newegg and started looking around. I promptly noticed that there are about 20 different sockets for Pentium 4 chips. What gives? I have used AMD all of my life and have never bought anything for Intel chips ...
So, anyone have a good guide on how to figure out WTF socket my gf's chip is? I can get the /proc/cpuinfo if you need it.
Thanks for helping out a confused and slightly embarassed geek developer |

I'd like to think it's a 478, but I can't be sure, if it's 400mhz fsb I'm pretty sure it has to be 478.
There's a small, remote possibility that it's a 423. _________________ We are Dyslexic of Borg. Fusistance is retile. Your ass will be laminated. |

Be careful replacing the HSF. They often glue the heatsinks onto the heat spreader on the CPU in a fairly nasty way, which makes getting the old one off a nightmare. I had to fix one at work (IT tech in a school) and ended up pulling the whole CPU out of the socket when I was trying to remove the HSF.
Good luck. _________________ My blog
