jabref has a crossref field. what is it for? i can't seem to make that field do anything. i thought that you could link it to other references, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

You can reference another bibtex key in the crossreff field.
It is useful for chapters in books, or articles in proceedings.
You make up an entry for the book or the volume of the proceedings, making sure to fill in both the title and booktitle fields the same.
Then you make up an InBook entry with the chapter or and InProceedings with the article, and fill in the title and author and such. These values will overwrite the original values that were given in the book entry by putting the books bibtex key in the crossref field (this is why you have to fill in booktitle) |
