Hi,

I tried emerge courier and go back the following:

Code:

checking for fam.h... (cached) no
configure: WARNING: The development header files and libraries for fam,
configure: WARNING: the File Alteration Monitor, are not installed.
configure: WARNING: You appear to have the FAM runtime libraries installed,
configure: WARNING: so you need to simply install the additional development
configure: WARNING: package for your operating system.
configure: error: FAM development libraries not found.
configure: error: /bin/sh './configure' failed for maildir

!!! Please attach the config.log to your bug report:
!!! /var/tmp/portage/courier-0.48.1/work/courier-0.48.1/config.log

!!! ERROR: mail-mta/courier-0.48.1 failed.
!!! Function econf, Line 485, Exitcode 0
!!! econf failed
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

yet there is a fam.h in /usr/include/fam.h. Is this another lib32 vs lib64 issue? I tried the same build at work on a x86 system and got no complaints about the fam.h. I also checked the fam.h looks identical between the two.

Sort of solved, a bugzilla tracker was submitted (see 89478) by Mr. Fistler on Apr 18th. I will remove the question mark (on the solved) when the tracker gets addressed.

gentoo bug 89478 contains the following solution:

------- Additional Comment #11 From Roy Marples 2005-05-06 10:03 PDT -------

Created an attachment (id=58214) [edit]
fixes fam.h to #include <limits.h> instead of #include "limits.h"

This fix worked for me.

I don't know why Roy is not applying the patch and closing the issue.
But at least we got a solution in the meantime.

I can confirm that as of this writing, the bug still exists.
