emacs on gnome looks not so good... menus are not in the look&feel of the theme... can i make something to enanche the appearance?

emerge emacs-cvs and you'll get gtk2-menus :-)

If I'm not mistaken, Emacs still uses GTK1 unless you pull a copy from CVS.

Yes, GTK2 is only in cvs.
