I have installed Gentoo on my work machine and at some point in the last few months a problem has cropped up with autofs.

Basically for the first few minutes after the machine boots, I can't login because my home directory (NISPLUS autofs /home) is not mounted. ypwhich works, I can get the password file, so yp seems to be okay. autofs starts up fine during boot up and reports the /home directory as a mount point. But if I log in to KDE, I get KDCOPD errors which occur because I have no home directory.

If I log in to a pty, I get the error message, "No home directory."

However, if I keep trying to login to a PTY, at some point the files will become available and then I'll be able to log into KDE without problems.

I haven't been able to figure out what the delay comes from and I was hoping someone here would have some ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Brian

If you ypcat the automount maps and the master file are the results sensible? (Or does your setup use local auto.* files?)

Did the OP find resolution with this issue?
I'm researching a similar problem...

Cheers,
