Some users are experiencing segfaults or lockups with Old World Macs (BootX) and the 2005.0 LiveCD. Please try this alternative kernel instead of the G3G4 kernel provided by the liveCD and see if it fixes the problem. You should still use the G3G4 initrd with this kernel.

The kernel is available from my devspace at http://dev.gentoo.org/~josejx/OW-Kernel.bz2. It will need to be unpacked before use.

Let me know if this helps or if it is still not working!

Fixed the startup kernel panic problem on my StarMax 3000/160 (PPC 603ev). With this kernel I was able to get to the bash prompt.

EDIT: Did run into one problem. I can't load any kernel modules, so I can't get my network card working. I get the following:

Code:
livecd root # modprobe 8139too
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.10-gentoo-r7/modules.dep: No such file or directory

I'm going to see if I can pull off a networkless installation, then setup the networking once it's running under its own install and not the CD.

Ah you're right. I used the wrong kernel. I'll upload a new one in a bit. Sorry!

The one you uploaded before also seems to lack HFS+ support... since we're dealing with Macs, that would probalby be nice. :)

EDIT: I may have been doing it wrong. Having problems getting the hfs+ partition resized, I moved the harddrive into my x86 Linux box, and discovered that to mount the partition, I use /dev/hdb, not /dev/hdb5.

HFS is provided as a module, since you couldn't load modules you couldn't get it working. :p I've uploaded another kernel with the same filename, this one should match the kernel version provided on the CD.

It still doesn't work:

Code:
livecd root # modprobe 8139too
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.10-gentoo-r8G3G4/modules.dep: No such file or directory

This might help:

Code:
livecd root # ls /lib/modules/
2.6.10-gentoo-r8-G3G4  2.6.10-gentoo-r8-G5  2.6.10-pegasos-r4

I think you missed the - between the r8 and the G3G4.
