Hi,
I am new to Gentoo. I first downloaded it last night, and burned it to CD. I have the Universal 2005.0 copy. I tried the net-setup thing, it says it is fine, I even tried both inputing the IP and stuff, and DHCP, but to no avail. checked ifconfig, looked fine, but I am not totally sure what it should look like. eth0 is detected though ( if that means anything... ).
ifconfig eth0 (re-written...) :
eth0 link encap: Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:94:92:46:26
inet addr: 70.181.23.165 Bcast:70.181.23.255 Mask: 255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MUITICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:156 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frames:0
TP packets:8 errors:8 dropped:4 overruns:0 carrier:0
Collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX Bytes:7176 ( 7.0 KB ) TX Bytes:4720 ( 4.6Kb )
Interrupt: 11 Base Address: 0xa000
System:
1) An old Dell computer
2) A Digital Entertainment Corp. Ethernet Card
3) Cable Connection
4) All the computers are connected to a Hub that is also Connected to the Cable Modem.
Thank you for any help in advance! |

It says that Gateway is 0.0.0.0, which I asume is a bad thing. I dont know how to find the name server, I have not installed the OS yet, I need to setup the network before I can go further. ( Edit1: It is booted from the CD... )
Thank you for your response! |

that's clear. but even on live-cd with net-setup eth0 you're able to specify a nameserver. it is stored in /etc/resolv.conf |
