I ran a couple searches on the forum with no luck. I am on page 58 of the user guide and I can not emerge coldplug.
just after:
>>> Source unpacked.
make: ***No rule to make target 'j2'. stop
!!!ERROR: sys-apps/coldplug-20040920 failed
!!!function src_compile, line 556, Exitcode 2
This is my second attempt on this computer, the first time I did not have this error.. the manual is pretty user friendly.. I am just not a pretty user
should I fdisk and start over? what is the easiest way to delete and start over? _________________ I am a linux newbie |

Please post the contents of your /etc/make.conf - there's an option in there for parallel builds. I believe it goes something like MAKEOPTS="j2" - cant remember off top of my head (on windows box atm with no access to a Gentoo system). check there's no rogue line endings or anything, and yeah, post /etc/make.conf |

yes, That is what my /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf said...
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
I think I left a carriege return in it.. I started over from the begining. I hope I have better luck this time. thank you..
still on a steep learning curve _________________ I am a linux newbie |

Hope you didnt start right from the beginning again - you could be in for a long wait to find out if it worked!
Anyhow - you can comment that whole line out (just put a # mark at the beginning of the line) if you receive the same error next time around. That will just stop emerge from instructing gcc to build 2 source files simultaneously. Disabling the option may have a slight increase on compile time, but if it fixes coldplug's emerge problem, then you can re-enable it and subsequent emerges will then use the defined value. |
