Hi Guys,

I downloaded and installed the current Cisco vpnclient but I think it has a bug. From what I can see, when it is emerged, a symlinmked directory is created to place the vpnclient executable but it is never moved from the temporary directory where compiling / making has occurred to this directory.

ISTM that disregarding the emerge .build files, the actual Cisco makefile also does this.

Could someone confirm this for me?

TIA

MarkL

I can confirm it definitely is broken so either nobody is using the current Cisco vpn client or they are very naughty and fixed it on their systems without telling anyone as I cannot find any mention of it following a bit of forum searching (or maybe they managed to write the message with none of {cisco, vpn, client, bug, broken, binary} in which case if the message was in English and able to be understood, they must have done an amazing job! ;-)

One of the Uni System Engineers has writen a patch and a fix explaination so I am awaiting his permission to distribute his work. I'll log a bug when I hear from him this afternoon.

Cheers,

MarkL

I have gotten back to working on this problem again. From what it seems, the cisco software (and the emerge process) are building the vpmclient binary in a tmp directory, setting up a symlinked directory for it but forgetting to copy it before they quit and the tmp directory gets deleted.

I have it setup in my overlay directory but I need some way to do the emerge but *not* delete the temp directories & contents. If I could do this without manually having to make by hand, it would be convenient ;-)

I also have a patch to fix some warnings in the code. I tried just adding it to the .ebuild file but it seems emerge is smarter than me ;-) What is the approved procedure for test adding patches in the overlay or where can I read about it. man emerge didn't give any clues :-( I guess using this procedure I could also work on the previous question if I could comment out sectionf of the make procedure?

Thanks!

MarkL

OK, I found the ebuild HOWTO in the documentation at http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/handbook/handbook.xml?part=2&chap=1 and it appears the ebuild command is what I need to use.

Cheers,

Hi Guys,

The new version of the Cisco vpnclient software (and associated ebuild has fixed all build issues it seems.

I have also discovered a good side effect of the ebuild system. I went to download the newest version of the sw from Cisco but ut decided that the account I setup and successfully used last time did not have suffcient access rights to downlad i this time ;- So, I googled, downloaded from the first site I discovered and ebuild kindly verified the MD5 proving it is most likely a decent copy ;-D

Cheers,

MarkL
