When i compiled KDE 3.4 i forgot to put in the samba USE flag (d'oh!). I've included smbfs support in the kernel and emerged samba. In a late night daze, i managed to get the smb protocol to appear in KDE (can't exactly remember, embarasingly enough) and now when i type in "smb://some-computer" it now asks for a user/pass. However, it just keeps popping up the same window when i put in the correct user/pass. Other windows machines can see my shares and access them, so samba works.

so, what do i do to get it to work? i KNOW i'm typing in the right user/pass and i've even tried multiple machines.

Older posts suggest emerging kdebase again with "--newuse", but when i do that it doesn't do any compiling and gives no errror (prolly because kde-base/kdebase-meta is a meta package?)

Any suggestions or nudges in the right direction would be GREATLY appreciated.

I had this - it turned out I had to add the name of the workgroup to smb.conf. After that, it worked fine.

I allready checked that. They are in the same workgroup and the 2 other windows machines can see my computer...
