I have a Tobisha Satallite (model M30x-S214) and its screen has a rather wacky ratio. If I run it at 1024x768 everthing seems sort of "stretched" horizontally. It's dual booting XP, and XP is running at 1280x800 and looks perfect. The problem, as you can guess, is that I can't get xorg to run in this resolution. Even if I have 1280x800 as the ONLY resolution for the select depth it will still use 1024x768. Here is what I think is the pertinent part of /var/log/Xorg.0.log :
Code: | ...
(II) VESA(0): Total Memory: 509 64KB banks (32576kB)
(WW) VESA(0): config file hsync range 31.5-50kHz not within DDC hsync ranges.
(II) VESA(0): My Monitor: Using hsync range of 31.50-50.00 kHz
(II) VESA(0): My Monitor: Using vrefresh value of 60.00 Hz
(II) VESA(0): Not using mode "1280x800" (no mode of this name)
(--) VESA(0): Virtual size is 1024x768 (pitch 1024)
(**) VESA(0): Built-in mode "1024x768"
(**) VESA(0): Built-in mode "800x600"
(**) VESA(0): Built-in mode "640x480"
(--) VESA(0): Display dimensions: (330, 210) mm
(--) VESA(0): DPI set to (78, 92)
(II) VESA(0): Attempting to use 60Hz refresh for mode "1024x768" (118)
(II) VESA(0): Attempting to use 60Hz refresh for mode "800x600" (115)
(II) VESA(0): Attempting to use 60Hz refresh for mode "640x480" (112)
(**) VESA(0): Using "Shadow Framebuffer"
(II) Loading sub module "shadow"
(II) LoadModule: "shadow"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/modules/libshadow.a
(II) Module shadow: vendor="X.Org Foundation"

Any ideas on how I can get it to use this wacky resolution? |

Hrm...what type of graphics hardware do you have in that laptop? From the looks of things, you're using generic (VESA) drivers which may not be trying hard enough to figure out the supported modes. If you're not sure, could you paste the output of lspci (from the pciutils package)? _________________ - chris |
