How do I Go abouts Shelling in to other boxes. network or over the net..?

You'll want to use ssh. Most distributations come with the ssh server (sshd) installed and running by default (on port 22). They all come with ssh clients also.

To connect to a remote machine, make sure that port 22 is open on the firewall, and issue the following command:

ssh USER@HOST

Do a search on google for more information, or for windows clients.
