I can't get coldplug or hotplug or my network detected. When i try to emerge hotplug it looks for it on a website and then aborts. This happend when i emerged on the Universal CD also. In turn when i boot.. coldplug gives me an error message saying that scripts are required in /etc/hotplug (which i don't have). About my network.. yes dhcpcd was emerged and added to /etc/conf.d/net. My network worked fine when i booted the Universal CD (x86) but it looks like coldplug is up and running when the CD boots. Please help, as i have a complete GUI system just no network to build up my system.

oh when you load the universal cd what is the lsmod output. this will give some idea what you need. for now you would just modprobe the module. i would build the modules directly into the kernel then eventually, for those that are used frequently.

my ethernet is built into my motherboard it's not a card or anything. i used the 2005_pentium4 package kernel cause i have a 2ghz celeron processor. Bare with me as this is my very first every true Linux install.

do you know the motherboard make or box model/manufacture? how did you build your kernel? you may need to build it again with the right support -- this won't rebuild everything just what you need.
