Doom 3 benchmarks and sys configs

Ok, I thought it would be nice to have a page where everone can display thier fps and box setups for doom 3 under gentoo, just to see what people can expect it to run like. I'm going to go install gentoo and doom 3, when I get back I should have a windows vs linux vs gentoo linux fps chart.

PS: does anyone know if they've released the amd64 mobo's with pci express yet and if so, about how much they cost? I heard that pci express and 64bit was only avaliable for pentium right now.. that suxorz if it's true...

On a Window$ box...tweaking Gentoo numbers now on similar box (Athlon 2800+@2412MHz [12.5x193] on Asus board) but with GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128MB @ 300 core/298 mem. Might have to drop a 6800 in there

Will post Gentoo scores in a day or two.

24.9fps in "timedemo demo1 usecache" @ low quality 640x480

My GF3 is old, but Doom3 is supposed to be playable on GF4 MXs, and I know my GF3 TI is better than a 4MX, so shouldn't I be getting better numbers? I tweaked cache and video ram in the config file.

averages: 35 - 39 fps @ 1024X768 (default quality settings - whatever they are).

To give you an idea on a low-end system (low-end for Doom3 anyway)

P4 1.5GHz
384MB RAM
GeForce 3 (the first GF3 cards released)

640x480 on lowest = 16.6FPS

It's playable, but just barely

well i tried multi resolutions at low quality, but it kept artifacting at the same spot (about the middle of the demo) so i ran it at 640x480 at low quality and without shadows, bump-mapping etc... and it almost worked (it started artifacting in the last 5 seconds of the demo) then it said that i had scored 57fps... stupid ati drivers

-Gentoo (1.0.6111-r2 drivers) - 30.0
-Gentoo (replaced .so w/symlinks) - 29.9
-Gentoo (symlinks, SBA+Fast Writes enabled) - 30.1

I chose the same setting for both windows and linux. Both had any AA disabled. The symlinks, Side Band Addressing, and Fast Write tweaks don't seem to have an effect on my system, but hey, it's still faster than Windows

I feel like it is unplayable...when monsters come out fps drops majorly. Even ut 2004 is unplayable to me. To used to the smoothness of q3 arena.

Just a suggestion guys but if you're going to benchmark at least use the same resolutions/settings.

Makes it way easier to see advantages vs disadvantages.

at 1024x768 medium AA2x, i get 23FPS. It's about 5 more fps than in windows this the same settings :lol:

In other games, i can overclock my gfx card a little more but this will cause domm3 to crash so...

i haven't benchmarked it.. but... i can play!!!!

i think i would have more or less 20 or 15 fps with all at the minimum, i only tried it to see if it worked :p

The cool thing is that on windows i can't run the game, but on linux yes, when the minimum graphics card is a GF4 MX.

I am a little bit confused about the benchmark scores posted here.

My system:
AMD 64 3200
1GB Ram
FX 5900 (not XT)

1024x768 default medium details
28,7 fps

But within the game the framerate is between 25-60fps. My system is 64bit.
