Exactly.
After you burn your CD, if you open (or explore) the CD and see the install-x86-universal-2005.0.iso (or whatever exactly the filename) file listed, then you have done it wrong -- i.e. you burned it as a data CD and added the iso file to the list of files for burning to the CD.
You should be able to find an option or menu selection somewhere in Nero to burn an Image. _________________ Vim has excellent syntax highlighting for configuration files: emerge gentoo-syntax

MATE U CAN'T JUST ADD THE FILE TO A CD AND EXPECT IT TO WORK:!:
i have nero express soo do as follows
Double click the Nero Express Icon (the one with the circle and the burning flame)
Go to the Copy and Backup Icon(2nd last from right)
And select Burn Image To Disk
Now follow the wizard until u start burning and Bobs ya uncle

Look for a menu option (or file selection) that would specify iso ... it appears that nero is looking for it's own image format. Otherwise I don't know, as I have never used Nero myself. _________________ Vim has excellent syntax highlighting for configuration files: emerge gentoo-syntax

I don't want to appear rude, but if burning an ISO image in Nero is beyond your current abilities, I'd suggest a "friendlier" distribution than Gentoo. Fedora Core or Mandriva are examples you might be interested in. |

This is a little vague.
Did you read the thread that polle linked to? If so, did that not help?
If you have determined your version of Nero is incapable of burning an ISO image, then I recommend upgrading your Nero or purchasing another brand of burning software. As myself, and likely most people here, don't have access to Nero, it is impossible for us to guess at what you need to do to make Nero burn the ISO image. My suggestion is that you email the Nero tech support and ask them. _________________ Vim has excellent syntax highlighting for configuration files: emerge gentoo-syntax

Also, when you're locating the images while in Nero, select "All image files" so you can see every type of image file rather than Nero images.
You should be able to burn after you select it and move on to the next window. |

And you can get a free demo copy of Nero if your version doesn't support burning ISO images, but I think that's unlikely. |

Change what, exactly? The BIOS settings?
Try pressing Del or an F key "F1, F2" at boot. Pay attention to what the screen says.
Often it will quickly flash "Press Escape to skip to BIOS" or something to that effect. |

Do you have nero?
Just open nero, and select "burn an image" and select the image you downloaded. |

download this: http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo/releases/x86/2005.0/installcd/install-x86-universal-2005.0.iso
NOTE: the mirror/version you prolly want to change, since i don't know your architecture n all.
just make sure you download a .ISO file. Note: that is .iso, the extension is ISO.
when it comes to the burning stuff, i can quote others:
Double click the Nero Express Icon (the one with the circle and the burning flame)
Go to the Copy and Backup Icon(2nd last from right)
And select Burn Image To Disk
Now follow the wizard until u start burning
NOTE: use an empty cdr. |

This was the most direct and helpfull answer I've read regarding nero and gentoo install cd! _________________ Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth. Then you'll see that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself. |
