|
|
I can't seem to figure out how to enable DMA for my hard drive. I thought I either built the appropriate kernel peices as modules or built in, could someone please guide me thru the steps?
My lspci output
Code: | (localhost:~) sam% sudo lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82810E DC-133 GMCH [Graphics Memory Controller Hub] (rev 03)
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82810E DC-133 CGC [Chipset Graphics Controller] (rev 03)
00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801AA PCI Bridge (rev 02)
00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801AA ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02)
00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801AA IDE (rev 02)
00:1f.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801AA USB (rev 02)
00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801AA SMBus (rev 02)
00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801AA AC'97 Audio (rev 02)
01:02.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado] (rev 78) |
My hard drive is really slow... 4mb/sec
Code: | (localhost:~) sam% sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/hda4
/dev/hda4:
Timing cached reads: 432 MB in 2.00 seconds = 216.03 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 14 MB in 3.37 seconds = 4.15 MB/sec |
I can enable 32 bit mode and HD speed doubles to around 8mb/sec
If I boot from gentoo minimal cd and do the same test it comes out at like 30mb/sec
The specs for the computer say it is UltraATA66 ide bus
This is my first linux desktop system so I am still pretty new to figuring this stuff out.
Thanks,
-Sam[/code]

Some people have to disable the generic drivers to get the Intel IDE drivers to work. |

Hey... that worked =) Now I am getting around 28mb/sec so that is much better, like 7x faster. I assume it could still be optimized a bit? But I am just happy it is working now. |
