I tried it with an G3 iBook, hardware is a Radeon Mobility M6 LY.
The effect is far too slow. I have to disable it. I also tried it withoud shadowd which are quite buggy.
DRI and acceleration is enabled, as far as glxinfo says.

But the effects I was able to see are looking amazing good, if finally at appropriate speed.

Anyone ever get KDE's composite engine to behave properly with an ATI card or are ATI owners still screwed? I would like to be able to use transparency and other effects without killing my system resources like in Windows. I can't dare to turn on certain window animation effects without the apps slowing to a total crawl when the effect is activated. This on an amd3200+ and an x600 256mb gfx card, I run 3ddesktop in Gentoo just fine and the only time it slows down is when I am running portage or doing locate -u. Its really getting annoying that even with all of this power I can barely use some of the cooler effects available for either of my systems because they either won't work with my card [In the case of Linux.] or the resource management is so crappy the system can't handle the effects.
