I wonder. Is there any additional steps required to make surround working on Gentoo based system ?
I try to explain my problem. I use SBAudigy card right now but I have a big problem with surround sound. Generaly it's not working at all in xine and mplayer. I setup xine to play using alsa plugin and 5.1 sound, but when I try to play a DVD move or any other movie with 5.1 sound it's strange corrupted (it's hard to describe for me) The same for mplayer.
Then I ask. Is there any additional steps required to make 5.1 sound working under linux ? I emerge alsa-driver and setup it to use my audigy card. I can normaly use xmms or xine/mplayer and hear normal sound, only surround doesnt work normaly.
Anyone have any advices ? If any additional informations are required just ask. |

I know what you mean, I had the same problem. If you have alsa-lib-1.0.9_rc2-r1 then this might help you:
I posted a patch to gentoo bugzilla, which fixes the surround problems with current alsa-lib. Have a look at the https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90330. It is not in the portage yet, but you can apply the patch yourself by putting alsa-lib into portage overlay, modifying the ebuild and re-emerging alsa-lib.
Luckily this patch will be in the next alsa-libs release AFAIK. |
