Well, I burned the 2005.0 minimal alpha livecd using bashburn on my x86 and put it in the PWS. PWS turns on, SRM arrives, I try to boot from the IDE CD-DRIVE.. Fails.
Well, alright. I'll just put a SCSI CD drive in there. I do so, try to boot..
And I get the following error : block size is not 512 bytes for dkc400.4.0.11.0.
And then, failed to open from dkc400 ....
Any ideas? _________________ Votre moment detente

Looks like you've got a CD-ROM drive that can't do 512-byte sectors. I don't know about alpha (I don't own one... never used the arch) however this is the case on MIPS-based Silicon Graphics workstations. Have a look on the back of the drive for a strapping to switch between 512 and 2048-byte sector modes. Any Sun or SGI branded drive will probably work fine too. _________________ Stuart Longland (a.k.a Redhatter, VK4MSL)

Thanks for the tip.
It seems the CD-ROM was bad anyway; a 2004.2 I burned a few months back and forgot I had did the trick.
Issue ... work-arounded. _________________ Votre moment detente
