This is generally considered obsolete as user space programs are now offering similar performance.
There was talk of removing this in 2.5x, not sure what was decided though. |

methinks it's gone bun not sure, but the discussion was not about performance but about bloating the kernel

it's like any other http server, but since it runs in kernel space, it has some speed improvements, it's only designed to work with static files, when there's some procesing to do, the request it's passed to userspace httpd _________________ I am Beta, don't expect correct behaviour from me.

Well when it was first put in, it was put it because it was much faster then the user space programs available but now that that isn't the case it's just code bloat.
Looking through kernel traffic it looks like it is gone for 2.5x
