Hi, All.
I'm new in Linux, and have some installation problems.
1. I can't emerge cron daemon (I tried vixie-cron)
2. I can't emerge LILO or GRUB
3. Is it normal, that I unable to mount /dev/cdrom (and /dev/cdrom1) from my enviroment?
4. Is it normal to install network, later (I use universal CDs)
Gentoo version is 2005.0, kernel: gentoo-sources 2.6.11-gentoo-r3, root filesystem: reiserfs, /boot partiton -- ext2 _________________ CPU not Found, running software emulation! |

You have to be a little more specific than this :-)
Where does it go wrong for the first time? What kind of hardware, etc?

Ok, not a trouble.
------------------------------
Hardware
------------------------------
CPU: ICeleron 2000
Motherboard: MSI 6580Neo (chipset i845pe)
512M ram
2xHDD (seagate barracuda 40GB each) gentoo is planned to be installed on the first HDD (/dev/hda)
Video: Nvidia geforce4 Ti4600
NEC ND 2510A DVDRW drive
Net: 'Tulip based'
------------------------------------------
Installation.
Well I tried to do all according to docs.
kernel was configured manualy using menuconfig and compiled only with a few warnings (it was made after chrooting into enviroment)
then I copied bzImage to /boot
and then I tried to to emerge cron, of cource, I had extracted snapshot. emerge failed with error (error with no description).
The results with LILO\GRUB are the same.
PS: I made env-update, when I had chrooted in the enviroment. _________________ CPU not Found, running software emulation! |

It's hard to troubleshoot errors without more verbosity. What error did you get when you trid to emerge vixie-cron? |
