Sim - simple instant messenger and fluxbox

I am using the latest version of SIM and whenever i sign on with the aim protocol I try to message someone. In the message my name appears as "?????" and then i get signed off only to be signed back on after 10 seconds. Is this just happening to me? I believe even before this has hapened. I have also tried it with different screen names with no success.
