|
|
Hi
I'm wondering if there's any point in using genkernel if I invoke it like genkernel --menuconfig all and do all the kernel menu selection by myself (with no help from the script).
Isn't the whole point of the genkernel was that it would select my hardware automatecly, those compile my kernel with the modules that i need but without me helping it ?
I'm folloing the installation of http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-quickinstall.xml
comments appreciated.
Thank you. _________________ "God doesn't play dice with the universe",

Yes, but then the quickinstall is assuming you already know your way around linux and a kernel configuration wouldn't scare you off. But you're right, the logic behind that part of the quickinstall evades me too. It's barely less work than a complete manual build. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

i remember the first time i tried to do that too -- i couldn't think of a good reason to do the quickinstall instead of a complete manual build either, so i just trudged through a complete manual build the first time and never looked back. _________________ .
